Yonge
Street Mission: Yonge Street Mission
in downtown Toronto is one of Canada's leading
agencies dealing meaningfully with poor and marginalized
people in urban settings. They identified high
priority needs for computer training for children,
as a fundamental literacy and life-skills issue.
As well, they wanted to take steps to create a
viable business in the community, as well as address
other needs. KMA was commissioned to conduct a
planning and implementation study, and then to
consult to a $4 million campaign. The result was
a new branch housing a groundbreaking computer
literacy lab for children, and a retail for high
quality used clothing, known as DoubleTake.
"KMA
was instrumental in the planning and launch of
the capital campaign for a new branch we initiated
as part of our centennial. Their contribution
in the early months helped us understand how a
campaign operates, and how the major gifts process
unfolds. KMA gave valuable help in shaping how
our vision would be worked out in practical terms,
and they also helped us believe it was possible
to succeed. We're glad we got professional help
at the outset."
